(Dis)Location/Orientation

"The incessant flow of digital imagery creates a fragmented reality, where the boundaries between the virtual and the real are increasingly blurred, leading to a sense of perpetual dislocation... Our engagement with digital screens disrupts traditional temporal and spatial coordinates, leaving us in a state of constant flux and perceptual instability."- Shane Denson in Discorrelated Images

I am constantly engaging with a barrage of information, people, and cultures. As a chronically-online, international college student, I am always between my 2 homes (Kolkata and Providence), my varied academic pursuits, my friends and their emotions, and the endless stream of images on my phone. I exist in a constant state of flux, of dislocation and disorientation. My mind is never at rest. As my images embody this lack of stillness, they tend towards abstraction.

My thoughts and emotions are everywhere and nowhere at once. From wonder, curiosity, and happiness to anxiety, fear, and the feeling that things are just slightly incorrect, my photographs are the results of frantic journeys through my subconscious. They are attempts to express and make sense of these emotions and disorientations.

Every time I try to meditate, I am overwhelmed by a sea of thought. As I close my eyes, I am transported to a world just beyond mine. As I incorporate the spaces and people in my life in my photographs, I begin to materialize and make sense of this strange world and my disorientations.
